Among national
contributions, Scottish Screen and the Scottish Film Archive offer a
five-programme presentation showing how Scotland was represented and
represented itself in the silent cinema. Contrasting highlights include
Mary Pickford in Maurice Tourneur's 1917 Hollywood-eye view of
Scotland, The Pride of the Clan, and a series of films by Scottish
cinema managers in their twenties, recording their own audiences, the
humble people to whom they purveyed the movies' glamour.
