As usual the festival opens
and closes with a major live music event. To commemorate the centenary
of Sergei M. Eisenstein, the opening show (Saturday, October 10, 9:00
p.m., Verdi Theatre) will be a screening of his first feature film, Strike,
specially commissioned from the Alloy Orchestra.
The Alloy Orchestra is pleased
to announce that veteran musician Roger Miller will join the ensemble.
Miller, along with Alloy percussionists Terry Donahue and Ken Winokur,
will tour extensively this fall, in both the U.S. and Europe,
performing live accompaniment to this film. Miller fills the seat left
vacant by the sudden death of former Alloy keyboardist, Caleb Sampson.
Alloy percussionist, Ken
Winokur commented, "An amazing film. Filled with energy and magnificent
cinematography, this is the most exciting film we've ever scored."
Alloy's other percussionist, Terry Donahue added, "This is such a
dynamic film that it really calls out for an Alloy score. Usually, the
Alloy drummers have to lay back so we don't overpower the movie. With
this film, we can go at it full tilt."
The George Eastman House is
providing a newly restored print with English subtitles for the
performances.
